The first case of #COVID19 was identified in #NC yesterday. At @BlueCrossNC our highest duty is to protect the health of our members and to give providers the tools they need to care for our members every day.
@BlueCrossNC is taking specific steps to improve members’ access to primary care (including virtual care) and medications, and to support members who require acute care services. Here are 3 ways we are supporting our commercial members and #NC providers, beginning March 6:
@BlueCrossNC will expand and promote access to virtual visits with providers. This will further encourage the use of virtual visits and allow doctors to monitor members at home, minimizing the spread of infection and easing the burden on emergency rooms.
@BlueCrossNC will expedite approvals in order to support members needing care related to COVID-19; specifically relating to hospitalization, post-acute care and medical equipment needed in the home.
@BlueCrossNC will waive early medication refill limits on 30-day prescription maintenance medications consistent with the CDC recommendation to have a 1-month supply of medication on hand. Member cost sharing will apply as normal.
Most importantly, we recognize the efforts of our network providers who provide care on the front lines to our members. These measures take effect March 6 and will remain in effect for 30-days, after which time we will revisit them.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will coordinate with federal, state, and local entities, and providers across the state. We will communicate any updates to our response and post them here BlueCrossNC.com/coronavirus
