Indian regiments Mysore Lancers, Hyderabad & Jodhpur played a crucial role in liberating Haifa from ottoman Turks & Germans

Israelis have a lesson in their school text books which is dedicated to Mysore Lancers

But Indians never taught about it

It was the then Maharaja of Mysore, the most popular king Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadeyar who took initiative to help Israelis & arranged 5000 men to help them in war

He donated around Rs 50 lakh to Indian War Fund from his personal saving & provided all facilities to soldiers

Turkish army was well-equipped with machine guns and artillery, while on the other hand, the Indian troops had only spears at their disposal

And

Were not too strong in terms of the number either—400 Indian soldiers were on a battlefield against 1500 Turkish men

It is one of the most fierce battle during World War 1 which liberated the strategically important city of Haifa

2 brave lancers were awarded the Indian Order of Merit (IOM) & 3 were awarded the Military Cross (MC)

Every year, 23 Sept is celebrated as Haifa Day in India & #Israel to pay respects to Indian soldiers who ended 400 years of Ottoman control over the city
