To all the opponents of #AuratAzadiMarch2020

Here is why I support Aurat March:

1)Most women in my region are treated inhumanely. They conceive 12 times on average, lack access to even basic healthcare, go 4 first ante-natal checkup only during last 2 months of pregnancy.
2) I know women who are regularly subjected to physical violence by husbands but they can’t even complain bec it might lead to even worse consequence ie divorce. Parents are usually aware but they are helpless in such circumstances.

Even people in pos of authority are of no help
3) I know women who made rotis & food for 40-50 everyday for 30-40 years. They do this while raising 10+ kids & doing all other domestic chores. They don’t get a word of thanks from menfolk, let alone being paid for the labour. Worse part, they still get beaten.
4) I have seen young women (under 40) suffering from diseases such as high BP, heart problems, hyper tension, back pain, knee failures etc bec of heavy work & unmarried life. They look 60-years old at age of 35-40. More extreme cases are instances where women committed suicide.
5) I know women who didn’t go to a restaurant for lunch/dinner in their entire life, who never went out on a picnic with family.

I have seen stupid, incompetent & useless men treating women like animals. They were able to do this only bec of their male privilege.
6) Summing it up, many factors explain poor plight of women but patriarchy is among most imp ones.

If by odd chance anyone breaks these structural barriers, h/she can’t bring major changes. Voices for basic reforms are treated as radicals & usually not accepted by community.

My wife is a doctor at a public hospital. The stories she shares literally make u cry.

Women who die at time of delivery simply bec they didn’t make it to a healthcare facility in time.

Women who are treated as untouchables only bec they didn’t give birth to boy
