This sort of stay is often called “administrative” and generally happens with Thomas and Alabama, because the state would proceed with the execution once the warrant was active if there is *not* a court order halting the state from proceeding — even if a stat request is pending.
In other words, don’t read this as anything more than Thomas giving the full court time to consider Nathaniel Woods’ #SCOTUS request.
Breaking: The stay of execution in Nathaniel Woods’ case has been lifted, and both stay requests have been denied. #SCOTUS will not stop Alabama from proceeding with the execution tonight.

Nathaniel Woods has been executed. His is the fifth execution carried out in the US in 2020 and the first in Alabama in 2020, which is the fourth state to execute a person this year.
The states are:
- AL
- GA
- TN
- TX (2)

I actually couldn’t stop watching the Hillary doc, despite the fact that it just pretended some things didn’t happen over time and was obviously as sympathetic to her as possible. The extensive interview and older footage made it impossible for me to stop watching.
Also: It depressed me about so many things on so many levels that I’m upset I had therapy just *before* I watched it and also I just wanted to step away from here today as a result.
This is only half a joke!

A point about last night's execution of Nathaniel Woods. It is as much of an indictment of the current system as anything else, including the failure of #SCOTUS to adjust its practices to improve transparency, but there is more nuance involved than some are suggesting.
There was a lot of reporting on the initial stay entered in the case by Justice Thomas. This stay, as I detailed last night, is often referred to as an administrative stay, and is issued in order to give the full court time to consider the issue.
While some have criticized Thomas for this, the truth is that this is a way of ensuring that a state does *not* proceed with an execution while the stay application is pending. Once a death warrant is active, a state can conduct an execution — but a valid stay halts that.

During the Chandrababu Govt, Amravati received political as well as financial patronage. Now, with Jagan Reddy being incharge of the state, the project is in shambles. World Bank & ADB pulled out of the project and the Government is looking for reasons to scrap it. 2/n
The bonds issued to support the financing needs of the project were subscribed by Franklin MF and Birla MF. The bonds are guaranteed by the AP Govt but it's not sure if the Govt would keep servicing the bonds. The risk of lending to a state govt has again come to the fore. 3/11

Make NO mistake this is NOT about protecting life. It is a hostile GOP and their #WarOnWomen restricting #WomensReproductiveRights and #WomensHealth.
Highly restrictive abortion laws are not associated with lower abortion rates! Whether legal or prohibited the number of abortions taking place remains relatively unchanged. Highly restrictive abortion laws simply prevent SAFE abortions.
In countries where abortion is completely banned or permitted only to save the woman’s life or preserve her physical health, only 1 in 4 abortions were safe; whereas, in countries where abortion is legal on broader grounds, nearly 9 in 10 abortions were done safely.

Prior to #Roe in 1973, only three states, NY, WA and HI had legal abortion.
In 12 other states abortion was legal to save the life of the mother. In every other state abortion was illegal under all circumstances including rape, incest, fetal abnormality and life of the mother.

Currently, all but six states--44 plus DC-- require parental notification for a minor to obtain an #abortion, even though significant numbers of minor pregnancies are caused by incest.

You've made it that "irresponsible" sex that leads to the creation of new life forces women to carry to term. OK. What is your justification?

Lets extrapolate.
Clearly the value placed on human life is high enough that you are seeking to protect the unborn.

Prioritising their well being over the pregnant woman. Even if you feel the woman has rights, you place the rights of the unborn first.
I don't feel this is an unfair appraisal of the situation...

Criminalising the act of abortion, as a deterrent. But what is it intended to deter?

Abortion - clearly. But is that the intention here? Isn't it "Promiscuous" sex that is the "sin" you are looking to combat?
