I love you, I love your city, it was once my home & I will always fight for you & for #HongKong

You are at your best when you hold the moral high ground, when you protest in peace, for that is when you will win the hearts of the world 1/3
I understand the anger,desperation,frustration that might lead a few of you to contemplate violence

You face a #HongKongPolice that perpetrates violence with impunity,indiscriminately,totally disproportionately & with extremity,every day

You have a human urge to fight back 2/3
But nevertheless, bricks & molotov cocktails have already lost the hearts of some.

Bombs would only make your situation worse

So I plead with #HongKong friends who are bravely protesting for freedom & whose struggle is my struggle:

Fight for hearts & minds, NOT bodies & blood

Given the Logan Paul controversy, I’m going to write a very “mom” tweet-storm about abortion.

When I was younger, I (like many women I know) had an abortion.

The person with whom I’d gotten pregnant made it clear that they wanted no part of having a kid with me. If I was to keep the pregnancy, I had to move out of the home we lived in together.

So I moved out.
For several long weeks, I went back and forth with what was the hardest, most painful, most soul-destroying decision of my entire life.

Most of this while couch-surfing at friends’ places, and crying all over anyone who would listen.

Righteous anger has been an un-depletable fuel driving HK's mvmt. Less written about is the other mushier driver - love. It sustains us, it unites us, and it allows us to keep hope alive through the long night. 1/8
Romantic love can blossom even in the harshest environment. HK protest art of geared-up lovers highlight the resilience of HKers & the surrealness of it all. They're young ppl who yearn to be carefree, but history has given them responsibilities to bear, and they can't say no 2/8
Fraternal love can also be seen. No one gets left behind - 1st pic here shows episode where HKers carried a brother out of LegCo who wanted take on HKPF alone. It cld be a weakness - HKPF now targets girls, knowing frontline will fight to free them- but it's also our strength 3/8

That assertion – heard so often from the Other Side -- bothers me. Every time. Gives me a frisson of doubt. Because it sounds so very much like the moral high ground. So lofty, so virtuous.

Are they right? Are we wrong?
Thinking about what’s between people’s legs doesn’t sound very noble, does it? A tiny mind and an upskirting periscope, obsessing grubbily on genitals – that’s not who I want to be.

So are we wrong?

Sure, said the 21-yr-old me, there are a few blips that need hammering out. But they can be sorted. No need to make a fuss. Equality is right round the corner.
