Every rich person panicking about the economy today who cheered on and gave money to Trump knew he was an incompetent doofus, but he was *their* incompetent doofus who'd be good for short term profits so they supported him. Same goes for virtually every sitting GOP Senator.
By "we," Lindsey only meant "Republicans" when he said this in March of 2016, but he might as well have meant "Americans." 
The utterly incompetent, anti-science and anti-government GOP-led response to the Coronavirus are the chickens coming home to roost on all of our heads, the chickens of six decades of anti-modern and anti-government demagoguing.
A party that's built its brand around the idea that a) Barack Obama was born in Kenya, b) climate change isn't real, and c) "Fox news" and Breitbart are "news outlets" has proven itself entirely incapable of dealing with a global pandemic. Shocking!
If the free market actually worked in politics, then the GOP would have suffered the fate of the betamax VCR the second they rallied around Sarah Palin for VP.
Trump already had his Katrina moment with Puerto Rico. The crisis the nation is confronting now (which would have been less severe had we been prepared) might end up being the GOP's Hoover moment.
