My mom & dad were both scientists & that’s how they met at work. My dad used to secretly leave flowers for my mom in her lab for almost a year before he asked her on a date.
They helped provide clean water in Tehran & across Iran.

My dad wrote some of Iran’s early junior college chemistry books.
His best students got recruited by University of Tehran.
He was also an architect. Some of Tehran’s current infrastructure still standing were his projects pre-revolution.

My peeps were such good scientists that countries such as Australia wanted them to come live/work for them.
They said no.
Few years later Iran got hit by an Islamic Revolution.
We had green cards & could have left for US anytime.
We didn’t. My peeps thought they could help.

Till 1 night (few years after revolution) ppl started shouting ‘god is great’ because apparently, they’d seen Khomeini’s silhouette on the moon — yes the moon!
And that’s when mom & dad decided to save their 2 kids from an extremist regime that had 0 respect for science & lives.
