Observation:

Most people don't like their job, but operate with the expectation that their dream job is waiting for them on the internet on day one, if they can just "find their passion."

Wrong for many reasons: (thread)
Like any other workplace, reputation matters.

And reputation takes time to build.

You gradually prove yourself, and are rewarded with more responsibility as a result.
Connectivity and reach are features, but they aren't magic.

If you could be in 10,000 offices at the same time, but you had no tangible value to add, you would still be useless.
The illusion is maintained through the amplification of incredibly successful people that have been playing the game for a long time.

On the internet, you still have to start as an intern.
