Just have to say, public defenders are incredible. Inbox: A colleague of mine confirming he'll be in on Monday, telling all attorneys courtrooms he will be in, & asking anyone who needs help with case coverage to send him a note and not to stress. Just extraordinary humans.
The reply-alls are amazing to the initial email. Other attorneys, all with stronger immune systems, lower risk, not living or taking care of others at higher risk volunteering to cover cases in other courtrooms. A massive team effort to provide meaningful assistance of counsel.
And I'll just say that my office is doing everything in its power to "flatten the curve" of the virus. Limit exposure. Keep employees & our clients safe. Self-distance. But Courts being so slow to take immediate action & respond decisively is hampering our ability to do so.

Short Jail Stays: "There are at least 450k people locked up at any time around the country for brief periods — the vast majority awaiting arraignment or bc they can’t make bail, often small amounts. Why put them at risk & introduce the possibility they will bring the virus home?"
Probation/Parole Violations: "Stop arresting & incarcerating people for technical (noncriminal) violations of parole & probation. 4.5 million people live under court supervision around the country. 25% of new admissions to state prisons, for infractions like missed curfew.:"
