Why is there a vaccine against the flu?
Because "allowing the virus to pass through the entire population" does not make said population "more resistant to the disease"/safer.
Not boosting "herd immunity", boosting "thinning the herd".
And it's not: "We'll just do nothing and tell you it's the best option".
This is called "survival rate".
Sick people are contagious = fueling the epidemic.
Herd immunity is about not letting the disease spread by keeping people from being contagious.
