“Herd immunity": Indirectly protecting most of the population from an epidemic by vaccination.
No vaccine, no herd immunity.
Was Cummings allowed to pretend he knew something about science again?
@Peston
Quick practical example: The flu.
Why is there a vaccine against the flu?
Because "allowing the virus to pass through the entire population" does not make said population "more resistant to the disease"/safer.
Not boosting "herd immunity", boosting "thinning the herd".
You want to take effective measures take a look at South Korea. There's a reason their death rate is so low.
And it's not: "We'll just do nothing and tell you it's the best option".
Not to those telling me "When all the recovered sick people have recovered herd immunity is achieved".
This is called "survival rate".
Sick people are contagious = fueling the epidemic.
Herd immunity is about not letting the disease spread by keeping people from being contagious.
Also, about "enough recovered patients means herd immunity"
No it doesn't
