Statement says containment is still the appropriate strategy to fight #covid19 in Africa. @MoetiTshidi: “Cases may still be low in Africa and we can keep it that way with robust all-of-government actions to fight the new coronavirus.”
I hope this is true. But given what we have seen in Italy, Washington State etc. there is a high likelihood of undetected spread in some places. We’re still in the Schrödinger’s cat phase of this outbreak in many places, but we’ll know soon if it’s dead or alive.
How an epidemic would play out in Africa is anyone’s guess. The health care system of many countries is ill-equipped to deal with #covid19 to put it mildly. On the other hand median age in Africa is younger than 20 years (EU: 42,6), so at-risk population much smaller. Let’s hope.
