I've been tracking every #Covid_19 case in Australia since it started. Here are a few interesting charts from that data covid19data.com.au #coronavirusaus #auspol #covid19australia #covid19
This one shows Australia’s #Covid_19 cases over time. There was a lull in Feb and things have gathered pace in March. You can see we’re in the midst of *exponential growth* with a hockey stick curve just like some of the hardest hit nations.
NSW accounts for a significant part of that, although VIC and QLD have seen an uptick in the last couple of days.
We know these numbers don’t reflect the *actual* number of cases in the community right now. This is a delayed view of what’s already happened. We're currently living somewhere to the right of these graphs - which is pretty concerning given those trajectories.
NSW accounts for the vast majority of local transmissions. These are also growing exponentially. Here is a chart that shows national transmissions that are travel-related (grey) vs local (blue).
And here they are for NSW.
So the question is ... how and when is this curve going to start flattening? Especially given a) about half the state's transmissions have already been local, b) this is a delayed view of exponential growth, and c) the government's approach doesn't appear to have changed much?
As @paulg said, "when you're dealing with exponential growth, the time to act is when it feels too early."
One other chart for you - I've aggregated which countries our #covid_19 cases have travelled from. It’s not totally complete (health depts haven’t always released the info and I’m yet to clarify) but USA cases have eclipsed those from China.
All of this is on a little makeshift site I put together - covid19data.com.au (which is running a bit slowly atm thanks @Wix and @infogram 😬). If you have any suggestions / feedback, would love to hear it.
