Though many do not yet realize it, we are already at war.

As some sort of weird coping mechanism, I wrote a Coronavirus as Nazi Germany in World War 2 analogy.
China, Wuhan and Hubei represent the era of appeasement and the Anschluss, when Hitler took Austria.

To Most Europeans and Americans it was "happening over there," they looked on unmoving.
@balajis and @robinhanson were Churchill-esque figures, screaming into the void as everyone ignores the virus's period of growth and re-armament, but ultimately proved right.
Last week was the beginning of the blitzkrieg. The virus invaded everywhere at once, catching everyone unprepared.

Mass chaos ensued behind the Allied lines. The Digital Dunkirk begins.
Lombardy is the taking of Paris. It happened so fast that no one could stop it, but finally the Western World is paying attention.
Seattle is Pearl Harbor, the Americans realize that they can no longer stay out of the conflict raging in Europe and Asia.
The Battle of Britain is just beginning.

Over the next couple of weeks, shell shock will set in as many ordinary citizens see that war has come to their shores.
As hospitals and ICUs fill up and as loved ones fall sick, that which seemed distant and unimaginable will become inescapable and omnipresent.
Now, as then, the coming weeks, months and God forbid years will be hard.
Now, as then, the enemy must be beaten back not by politicians nor talking heads, but by the indomitable will of free peoples around the world.
Now, as then, let us brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the human race looks back in a thousand years, they will still say: This was our finest hour.
