New CDC guidance: "for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) [should] cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States."

The 8 week timeline here should be a wakeup call to a lot of people. Things aren't going to be normal for months.
Almost certainly means that MLB and other sports will have to significantly push back their timelines for the continuation of play. Even without any fans, there are at least 100 people in stadiums on any given MLB game.

It’s my sincere belief that Fox News is one of the most destructive forces in the country.
What other entity inspires terrorism (the mail pipe bomber, El Paso shooter, Quebec shooter, etc) while simultaneously promoting a viewpoint that is largely devoid of reality?
We have to get back to a place where everyone operates on the same underlying set of facts. Fox News appears to be the biggest roadblock.

This isn't a "typical" stock dump a la Burr, Loeffler, Inhofe, but rather Johnson selling a chunk of a plastics manufacturing company whose CEO is... his brother. March 2nd, right before the huge crash.
The company, Pacur, isn't publicly traded so there isn't a stock price. Johnson just sold his stake to what looks like a private equity firm. It's unknown if the PE firm knew what was about to happen with COVID 19. plasticsnews.com/news/private-e…
Honestly not sure which scenario is worse. Johnson owning part of a plastic manufacturing company and then dumping his share of ownership before the crash for $5-25M or the "simple" stock shorting done by Burr, Loeffler, Inhofe.

It’s fascinating how an event like this really makes clear that at the end of the day it’s all up to you and your family/friends. It feels tribal almost.
Politics and government and much of society are so theoretical. Only when you have to hunker down do you realize that your world is so small.
It’s freeing and terrifying at the same time.

#NEW I wrote about "electability" and the 2020 Democratic primary for the paper this week. We combined political science and polling data and found that a moderate Dem with strength among working-class whites has the best chance against Trump.

The 2020 election is likely to be close. Trump's approval rating & GDP growth suggest that he'll win about 49% of the two-party vote, per our modeling. He's clearly competitive, especially when Democrats need to win the popular vote by about ~2.5pts to win the electoral college.
So the "electability" of the candidates is a particular concern for Democrats.

So what do we know about who is more likely to win general elections?

#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.
