Open-borders lunatics probably won't learn anything from the coronavirus quarantines, but the rest of us should. Either maintain sensible controls on the border, or be prepared to draw a border around your house and litter your cities with barricades.
There will always be borders. The only question is who draws them, and where. The people who profess to loathe national borders are also very eager to draw boxes around legal citizens, restrict their movement, and compromise their property rights.
It should be obvious after the coronavirus nightmare that we need tight border controls and serious security to avoid importing more problems to pile atop the ones we already have. It should be so obvious that only lunatics, blind ideologues, and political hustlers can deny it.
This is all the more obvious in the Information Age, where so many of our social systems rely on accurate information and precise calculations. And yet we have people who seriously demand waving in vast numbers of undocumented non-citizens and showering them with benefits!
Here's the coronavirus to provide a painful demonstration of how foolish that is. And remember, the undocumented are "invisible" and "living in the shadows" in part because our corrupt system deliberately refuses to see them, track them, or count them - except when it wants to.
We're routinely told to ignore far more deaths and injuries from illegal immigration than the coronavirus is likely to inflict. We're not even allowed to DISCUSS those deaths, and the media refuses to dwell on them. Joe Biden just promised not to deport rapists and murderers.
Think our medical system is overstressed because of the coronavirus threat? Try imagining what it would look like a few years from now if a Democrat wins in 2020, throws the borders open, DELIBERATELY lures in migrants with promised benefits, and then the NEXT epidemic hits.
We can clearly see that information is vital to fighting a pandemic. It's why testing is such a hot topic right now. It's how the Chinese Communist Party unleashed this nightmare upon the world by deliberately quashing information about the outbreak in Wuhan.
Well, how good is your information processing going to be if you double, triple, quadruple the number of "undocumented" migrants and forfeit all ability to screen or block people at the borders? No information system can survive that level of uncertainty and bad data.
How can an already stressed-out medical system with huge costs and regulation problems survive dumping a massive load of new dependents on it, as all of the Democrat presidential candidates promised to do? How many more hospital beds do you think we'll need for the next epidemic?
It's not just about money, although money IS an invaluable form of information - one of the most accurate and swiftly-updated data streams, in fact. It's about information, which is the first medicine applied to any contagion, from viruses to crime and dangerous social trends.
And because all systems are so hungry for information, they have to extract more of it from lawful citizens in increasingly invasive ways - and restrict their actions with increasingly heavy hands - to make up for all the undocumented chaos and invisible people.
Either take your national borders and citizenship seriously, or be prepared to have ever-shrinking borders drawn around your life. The coronavirus is delivering this lesson quickly and painfully. Open borders and globalist ideologues won't learn, but everyone else should. /end
