* NHS England chief Simon Stevens now appearing before the health select committee

He says there are 98,000 general and acute beds in the NHS
Current occupancy is 90% and falling
There are 3,700 critical care beds

Stevens: "Unmitigated, there are no healthcare in the world that could cope if this virus was allowed to let rip."
* Ventilators

Stevens: As of today there are 6,699 adult mechanical ventilators operational, 750 pediatric ventilators, 691 in the private sector and 35 in the MoD

We can see 3,799 coming on line in next few weeks taking to 12,000
* Will we have enough ventilators?

NHS medical director Professor Stephen Powis: "Nothing is certain but absolutely our aim working with the modellers our aim to have the capacity"

(He dodges committing to saying they have enough to satisfy the number needed in modelling)
* Is there enough protective equipment for NHS staff?

Yes at the moment but there are distribution problems
* Will their guidance for intensive care doctors if we get to a situation where they need to make life and death decisions?

Professor Powis: "If, and it's an if and that is a point we don't wish to get to, then we will work collectively on guidance"
* Will cancer operations still go ahead?

Stevens: Yes
