In November 1977 a group of conservative women met in Houston in protest of the International Women's Year conference being held at the same time in that city. The conservative gathering was quite a trip, featuring, for example, this Elvis impersonator.
The headliner at the event was, of course, Phyllis Schlafly...who made it abundantly clear what was wrong with the event across town.
Bob Dornan's speech, decrying the $5 million of federal funds spent on the IWY gathering and lamenting the "sin" that he encountered there, is quite the stemwinder.
For those unfamiliar with the IWY meeting, here's a brief look at it.
TIL, that there are two, Elvis-impersonating Gospel singers named Steve Warren. I mean, what are the chances? This is the Steve Warren in the 1977 video. sghistory.com/index.php?n=S.…
