@BHCHP We’ve been all hands on deck preparing for #COVID19 among people who lack housing in Boston. Wanted to share some of the incredible efforts of our partners & dedicated staff!
Working closely w/ incredible partners like @PineStreetInn to reduce #COVID19 risk in shelters. Their advocacy and operational changes have been swift and strong! Will have HUGE impact on people who are #homeless.
So proud to work with other #homeless service providers like @SFHBoston & @DisruptPoverty & @HealthyBoston – these agencies are stepping up in major way, making lots of ops changes to reduce #COVID19 risk in their congregate settings.
@BHCHP Enormous gratitude to @SuffolkBuilds for helping us to rapidly get isolation & quarantine tents up for #homeless people in Boston. Dedicated beds, heat, lights, bathrooms, safer place for people without homes. 5 days from initial concept to go-live: incredible!
We’ve set up isolation ward at our medical respite program to care for sick #homeless individuals with #COVID19. Many thanks to @jabarocas & @BhadeliaMD @The_BMC for helping us get infection control practices sharpened & ready!
We’re rapidly launching #COVID19 testing booths for #homeless individuals in Boston at @BHCHP @PineStreetInn. Critical to test symptomatic homeless folks so they don’t spread virus in shelters.

This thread is my story battling symptoms this last week. They started differently than what has been reported, which caused some confusion and later fear, and might have led to other's exposure. I believe there are a things we (collectively) can do to better combat #COVID
My wife (Melody) and I were exposed to someone that was sick and in our home a few days before we started seeing symptoms. Melody developed a mild fever, headache and was nauseous a little over a week ago. She also had digestive issues.
The next day, I started having the same issues and developed a rash on my biceps that lasted for a few hours. We didn’t think much of it, because these aren’t symptoms commonly described as being related to COVID-19 and we likely exposed other people.

Just spoke w/ a surg resident from a major program where elective cases R cancelled but resident schedules haven’t been changed appropriately to address #COVID exposure concerns. This resident is expected to TRIPLE SCRUB a case in 2 days. How are people letting this happen? 1/8
As a intern w/ zero authoritative power, I’m incredibly thankful for our chief residents & fellows here @UMichSurgery who have taken it upon themselves to work with faculty & our dept leadership to address this crisis and it’s impact on our health system & day 2 day workforce 2/8
Services are limited 2 only essential “skeleton” team members, usually a chief/fellow + junior resident who round. Residents are not staffing clinics. Urgent/emergent cases are covered by level appropriate residents w/ care to minimize # of ppl in hospital at any given time 3/8

Not sure how to explain to children why it’s so important we wash our hands? Show them. I’ve just made this video for my nephew and he’s already done it with his siblings (who are younger) to show them too. It’s in German, but I’m sure you can get the gist. #COVIDー19 #SafeHands
Bowl is water, oil and pepper (= virus); plastic container is soapy water (= hand washing). I’ve seen a similar video (in a Scandinavian language perhaps?) where a dad did it together with their young child. There was a real “aha” moment. Whether it’s this or the virus generally,
talk to your children about it. My nephew, like many other children, won’t be able to see his grandparents for a while and he loves them. This won’t be easy for anyone and children need explanations too. x

@christianbaye13 & me have been thinking about the big differences in mortality rates so far during the corona outbreak in Europe. The differences in case-fatality rates are humongous. Italy has one of 6% while countries like Norway, Denmark & Germany have rates still close to 0.
Of course the rates will likely converge somewhat over time as the virus spreads and there are many effects in this. Division bias may play a role, as does the time since the outbreak.
However, we thought maybe there is something to learn in this in order to help to organize our lives in a way to minimize the risks for us and we pose to others. We picked up a striking data difference that @AndreasShrugged pointed out.

Finally authorities are putting Mazandaran province on quarantine: only fuel and food trucks are allowed. This late, its effectiveness will be limited.

The same authorities have had argued for quarantine to be "non-scientific" and "from middle ages".
