1/Notes on @COVID19Tracking daily update:

Testing improving, but still very slowly. Per capita US has now done as many tests over past 8 weeks as SKorea does daily; and we still have to be at 4x current rate to match SKorea's daily rate. While better, still a long way to go.
2/Positives jumped fr 11k to 17k today. Current rate of growth closer to 50% than 33%. According to the @FT below, last few days among fastest growth rate recorded anywhere in the world this year. Not good. cc @POTUS
3/Are these worrisome numbers going to force the President to finally do something to fight @COVID19?

US has no plan. We aren't mass testing, nor are we locking everything down. Not surprisingly the virus is spreading really really fast.

Every day Trump describes a plan to combat #COVID19, but it is a fictional one; and in fact, he is doing nothing.
How can it have come to this?

5/Return to this basic question - how is it possible this all played out the way it did? The President clearly cannot lead out of this crisis, and I repeat - his removal, resignation needs to be on the table.

Seriously, wtf does the President think he is doing?

He has no plan to combat the virus. There is nothing. The travel bans haven't worked. The virus is exploding. The testing regime still isn't working properly. The health care system is already failing.
2/Why can't people around him, Ivanka, GOP leaders prevail on him to do something, anything to stop the virus?

Adopt the South Korea model - mass testing/isolation.

Surge funding for hospitals/equipment/beds, train newly unemployed to support?
3/How can he get up there each day on TV and pretend like he is doing something when we all know he isn't? What is going on in the heads of those who in the WH? Do they understand that each day he does nothing more people will die, the economy/society will be more harmed?

So today Trump finally launched a response to #COVID19 crisis.

These steps are 6-8 weeks late, but they are welcome and essential. The US government is finally waking up and doing its part.
2/I am grateful to all of you who joined us in making the case for many things Trump rolled out today.

But Congress cannot rest now - it must create some form of new partnership w/POTUS to make sure he follows through, continues to fight.
3/Things are going to get very bad here in the first wave of the virus in the coming weeks. While we are beginning to tackle the bed/equipment issue, we still need to fix whatever has gone wrong w/testing and also surge help to health care professionals/hospitals.

Incredibly, Trump still hasn't fashioned any kind of natl health response to #COVID19 crisis.

Testing regime still not stood up, equipment/beds/health care workers needed, no clear strategy for social distancing....

Call Congress today. Demand a plan.

2/Realize there's been a lot of talk about tests coming but there just isn't a lot of evidence this is so, and w/o testing we can't #FlattenTheCurve.

US has performed fewer tests over last 8 weeks per capita than SKorea does every day.

#MyCovidStory isn’t mine, but still very personal, as it is a loved one’s & I am posting WITH PERMISSION.

On March 10, they had bad headaches, chills, & flu like symptoms. Wanted a #COVID19 test, but there were strict criteria & symptoms weren’t severe enough to qualify. 🦠
For the next 11 days, they continued to worsen, but symptoms had been uncomfortable but manageable at home.

On 3/21, they had been lying in bed with extreme fatigue and new symptom of fever 101, for 3 days. This day, it started to hurt to breathe in deeply.
Understandably alarmed about this latest symptom, they went to the ED. They had a CT scan which showed “multifocal groundglass opacities” in the entire right and most of the left lung. Typical findings of a pneumonia caused by #COVID19

Oxygen was 98% (normal) Temp 101

Multiple sources say the inmate who tested positive recently cleaned the empty Capitol building and is now isolated in a solitary confinement cell ... making others afraid to report symptoms since they don't want to go to solitary

Women who feel sick are scared to tell staff because they're "afraid of being thrown in the hole," an inmate said.

A mother said her daughter isn't feeling well "but doesn’t want to say anything," because if she's put in solitary, she won't be able to call her.

A brief thread about how the #COVIDー19 crisis in my small hometown of Albany, GA (Dougherty County) exposes some of the challenges unique to healthcare in rural places, but also serves as a harbinger of things to come in larger places. 1/14
Albany is a hot spot. Two and a half weeks ago there were zero cases. Now Albany has the largest number of cases per capita in the state of Georgia. Eleven people are dead. The ICU is FULL (more on that later). Let that sink in. 2.5 weeks from zero to devastation. 2/14
Here is a helpful interactive map of COVID-19 cases in Georgia. You see the dark mass of counties comprising the Atlanta metro area. Then you see one lone dark county in south GA. That's Albany. Someone came into town for a funeral. Now here we are.

Judge Howell's pandemic order postpones all civil and criminal trials until May 11, citing a “reduced ability to obtain an adequate spectrum of prospective jurors."
Judge Howell also postponing all non-jury trial proceedings over the next month, including hearings and court appearances, absent an order from a presiding judge on or before Apr 17 for a teleconference or in-person hearing.

Interesting.. a British tanker in the Persian Gulf has come to a complete stop. Would expect it to start heading south but as of now it's completely stopped.

Boat is the PACIFIC VOYAGER, image of the ship and it's location compared to Iran seen below.
Don't panic or anything, I'm going to monitor this until it makes another movement.
#UPDATE: Boat still stopped, it's status is officially stopped instead of underway using engine. It's at 0.5 knts as of now.
