I know I’m not the first to do this but with some people going on about ‘blitz spirit’ I thought I’d have a look back at what can learn from our own history when it comes to dealing with the #coronavirus crisis.
The first message is obvious. We’ve got to try to slow the spread of the disease as much as we can. This will reduce the pressure on the NHS, allow more time to develop effective treatments, and eventually allow time to develop a vaccine. All of this will save lives.
Remember this isn’t just about you. You might think you are fit and healthy enough to fight off this #CoronaVirus but, even if that’s true, everyone else you know and meet isn’t. The advice to wash your hands, isolate and distance isn’t just for your benefit, it is for all of us
Don’t think you can decide when it is right to do it or not. You don’t know who else has touched everything you touch, who has the infection and who doesn’t, and who might be harmed and who will survive. Always follow the advice to wash your hands and keep your distance.
If you are in one of the high risk groups don’t take any chances. There are good reasons why you are being told to keep isolated away from danger. There are plenty of people offering to help support people in isolation. Let them do it and keep yourself safe.
If you are not in one of the high risk groups still ask yourself if every journey is necessary. Every time you go outside you are increasing your risk of getting #CoronaVirus and/or passing it on to others
If you do go out then avoid using fuel or public transport if you can. We need to make sure that they are available to people doing vital work in our health and service sectors. And a bit of exercise will do you good🙂
And when it comes to supplies STOP HOARDING. Only buy what you need.

If you did panic and bought too much then next time you go out take some of those toilet rolls, hand sanitizers, bags of pasta, and tinned goods and put them in the collection point for the food bank.
Don’t be wasteful with the stuff you have bought. We have all got too used to having plenty. Learn to act like this is your last lot of supplies and don’t waste anything.
I don’t mind if you share any of this – I hope it might be useful – but please don’t spread ignorant ‘don’t care’ messages. If they are right and we're over-reacting then they can say I told you so afterwards. But if they are wrong it will cost lives so please don’t spread them
Finally, like crises before, we will get through this if we work together. Support those on the front line helping and look after those who might want a bit of support. We often tell ourselves how great we are, how kind we are, how sensible we are. This is the time to prove it.
