ANNOUNCEMENT: I'm excited to enlist your help in a new @WIRED project I'm doing, writing an oral history of the "Covid Spring," chronicling this moment in our history week-by-week, chapter-by-chapter in the words of those of us—all of us—as we live it.... wired.com/story/tell-us-…
As many of you know, I spent the last five years writing an oral history of 9/11, THE ONLY PLANE IN THE SKY, weaving together the stories of hundreds of Americans, in their own words, about what that day was like to experience and how it changed them.... simonandschuster.com/books/The-Only…
And yet each of the 2,000 oral histories I read for that project shared one thing in common: They all knew how 9/11 unfolded, how the day ended, who survived and who didn't....
Today, none of us how—or when—this story will end. We don't know what our country, our businesses, our politics, our society, or even our own families will be like when this is over....
Think of how different your own thoughts and feelings are this week from last week.
Think of the things we all did two weeks ago without thinking—a drink with a friend, a stop at the mall, a handshake to kick off a meeting at the office—that today seem far beyond reach and even a bit dangerous.
What's happening now that will feel foreign to us two weeks or two months from now?
Please help me and @WIRED capture this story. Email covid@wired.com with your stories of quarantine, social distancing, anxiety, hope, and fear. How has life changed? Work? Family? Tag us with #myCOVIDstory as you good Twitter threads, Facebook posts, and first-person accounts.
This "Covid Spring" might well be the biggest story most of us ever experience—hugely global, yet deeply personal at the same time. Tell us about how it's affecting. #MyCovidStory or covid@wired.com. And let's record this moment for history, together. wired.com/story/tell-us-…
