“Central govt is yet to clarify if sanitary napkins is an essential item ... almost all factories have shut. State govts also need to add sanitary napkins to the essential items list,” Rajesh Shah, president of Feminine & Infant Hygiene Association of India told @BloombergQuint.
This lockdown, like demonetisation, will have diktats coming from the top that never get reflected down the chain of command.

UPDATE: Just an hour ago, @PIB_India put out an addendum from Union Home Secretary categorising sanitary pads as "grocery items" and therefore essential supplies.

Kudos to the journalists who chased this story over the past two days!
