1/ <Thread> Yesterday, I analysed the Twitter traffic related to the recent @houseparty hacking rumors
2/ Important reminder: I only see the tweets which are still online. If someone tweet about it and removed his tweet or Twitter removed it, I can't see it
3/ The 1st online tweet about a potential @houseparty hack has been made by @blackholes
4/ The comments below this tweet are funny: "Hi, I want 1M$ can we discuss?"
5/ On March 29, 5 days after the first tweet @jadegrimes_4 tweeted about it
6/ Again the comments are quite funny: "we're all tryna get that $1m too bro don't worry"
8/ 10 minutes later, @Lewyyy_ said his Spotify account has been hacked
9/ In the tweet RT by @Lewyyy_ , a screenshot is showing a tweet made by @caitlinander123
10/ For some reason her profile is not online anymore (removed by Twitter?) but still available in Google cache webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache…
11/ We can notice:
- These accounts seems legit
- These accounts are quite small in term of followers
- A lot of teenagers
- No real proofs of the relation between a hack and @houseparty
- Before March 30, the Twitter traffic related to houseparty is quite small
12/ But the tweets were not very 'successful', let's have a look at the most influencial people and tweets
13/ The most successful tweet about the @houseparty hacking rumor has been made by @Loui3x
14/ In second position comes @Brooke_smedley with 1.2K RTs and 15K likes
15/ Number 3 is @TayybahAli with 362 RTs and 1.2K likes
16/ What I can say:
- These 3 accounts seems legit
- In my tweet capture, the traffic seems geniuse (no bots)
- The @Loui3x tweet got viral
17/ I made a 2nd tweet capture related to the @houseparty hack rumor and found more viral tweets
18/ I'm not even sure which language is it
19/ "The delete account process is weird"
21/ Again, these accounts seems legit for me and the Twitter traffic seems geniuse (no bots)
22/ As conclusion, as far as we can see today, we can say that the Twitter traffic about the @houseparty hack rumor seems legit.

It doesn't mean it is! Some accounts and tweets has been removed by Twitter or by their authors. Without this data we cannot be sure.
23/ IMO, it seems to be a good example of a rumor 2.0.

Small accounts claim something, after few tweets a tweet become viral and then the social networks start to be crazy
24/ No smear campaign, no 1M$ for me 😂
Update 1: So maybe the "@houseparty hacked me" was just a new meme among teenagers?
