To celebrate the #WomensHistoryMonth we are back with #HerstorywithCFWIJ! Today we celebrate six more amazing women voices in journalism. Some of whom paved the way, and others who are making them proud! (1/8)
First, let's go to #Canada and remember #EllaCoraHind! A journalist, an activist, and a suffragist. She was turned down for a position as a journalist #ManitobaFreePress, because of being an inexperienced woman journalist. Ella proved them wrong! #HerstorywithCFWIJ (2/8)
Carrying forward in Marguerite's spirit is @SulomeAnderson! Sulome is a powerhouse from #UnitedStates who regularly emphasized the importance of support systems like #CFWIJ. She reports on conflicts in #MENA. Listen to her talk about women journalists! #HerstorywithCFWIJ (5/8)

In #Pakistan today is #CFWIJ's own @afiasalam. She writes about climate change and gender issues in a very patriarchal society. Afia stands tall, as the state continues to attempt to silence voices of dissent. We can't be more proud to have her as a member. #HerstorywithCFWIJ
There was #SabihaSertel before there was even modern #Turkey. Sabiha was persecuted for speaking out about democratic rights and civil liberties, but her spirit never dwindled. Sebiha was a strong feminist voice who demanded the existence of a better world. #HerstorywithCFWIJ
Fighting to keep Sabiha's dream alive is @AylinNazliaka, the Republican People’s Party-Chair of women branch and member of party assembly. Aylin spoke to #CFWIJ about the importance of women journalists today, have a listen to what she said! #HerstorywithCFWIJ
Join us again tomorrow as we continue this series and bring to light the work of more amazing women around the world, in the present and in the past! #HerstorywithCFWIJ#WomensHistoryMonth

Today, hear what @Corinne_Vella, Daphne's sister in #Malta has to say about the strength and power women journalists possess and the kind of world they deserve.

As we keep saying, the world is a better place because of these women. Their struggles and ethics are a guiding light for all of us. We will continue our #HerstoryWithCFWIJ series tomorrow with more of such heroes!
Let us begin #HerstoryWithCFWIJ today in the #UnitedKingdom. Specifically #London, the birthplace of #DorothyLawrence. She was a war journalist, who obtained a soldier's uniform, forged official papers, and posed as a man to join the army so she could report from the frontlines.
Let's shift focus to #Canada, the home of #DorisAnderson. She was an author, journalist, & feminist activist. She was the editor of the #Chatelaine magazine, & played a major part in women getting equality rights included in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. #HerstorywithCFWIJ

#CFWIJ joined Pakistani #womenjournos in condemning the vicious harassment they face online. Attacks against them in digital spaces are a despicable attempt at silencing freedom of the press. Authorities must take concrete steps to end cyber harassment of women journalists.
1. #Pakistan: #CFWIJ stands with Pakistani #womenjournos who face constant online harassment by misogynistic trolls. We joined them in the campaign to shut down these vicious attackers and demand authorities to take strict actions.
2. This year alone, #CFWIJ documented at least nine different cases of threats and violence against women journalists in Pakistan, including cases of online harassment and abuse. Such attacks threaten the freedom of the press in #Pakistan. #AttacksWontSilenceUs
1. #BeirutBlast left at least 100 dead and 4,000 injured, as reported by @RedCrossLebanon. #Lebanon was already in an economic crisis and hospitals were struggling amid #Covid19. We thank health workers on the frontlines for their immense efforts during this devastating time.
2. #CFWIJ wishes a speedy recovery to women journalists who are among the injured. #BeirutBlast impacted offices of many news organisations. @AP correspondent @dalalmawad tweeted “coronavirus saved us” implying that staff were not in the office where windows were damaged.
(1/4) #Hungary: State of press freedom deteriorates after over 70 journalists from @indexhu resign to protest editor-in-chief Szabolcs Dull’s unfair dismissal. CFWIJ monitors the situation with immense concern and condemns the arbitrary actions against the press.
(2/4) On July 24, @indexhu staff resigned enmasse calling it “the end of an era”. They cited outside pressure & warned about the decline of independent reporting. The independent news outlet remains one of #Hungary's most-read & trusted news sources for the past 20 years.
(3/4) Friday's rally in #Budapest called for press freedom and extended solidarity with @indexhu. Protesters raised concerns over threats, blackmail, coercion and exertion of pressure on the media.
