Here we go then. For the 134th time, I welcome you to the daily thread covering all the news and developments from #Russia's war of choice and invasion of its peaceful neighbour #Ukraine.
#Russia's army was forced off the piece of land in the Black Sea a week ago by increased Ukrainian attacks, mainly from Caesar Howitzers
Now first photos released by the Government of the flags hoisted again
Let's take a look at the latest #Ukraine claims of total Russian losses in the war.
I understand #Russia has been rotating its troops this week so fewer offensives in some regions, probably a reason why increases have been less of late.
#Donetsk oblast has seen missiles rain down on both sides of the frontline this week.
#Ukraine's Regional Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko says Russian fire killed 7 civilians yesterday. Three in #Toretsk, 2 in #Avdiivka, and one in the villages of #Kodem and #Siversk.
There is clear worry in #Ukraine over the news about Boris Johnson. No need. All candidates will be strong on #Russia, especially if Defence Min. Ben Wallace, or my choice @TomTugendhat wins the election.
18 people were wounded in artillery missiles attacks #Mykolaiv region yesterday.
Head of the Regional Council Hanna Zamazeyeva confirmed the details this morning, saying the injuries and shelling happened in #Bashtanskyi and #Nikolaev itself.
A pro-Russian Telegram channel has helpfully published before and after shots of the #KAMAZ centre in #Donetsk. Sadly low res satellite pics, but the damage is still clear.
The buildings have been pounded, presumably by HIMARS, over the last 48 hours.
Anger in #Ukraine as #Turkiye releases a Russian ship likely loaded with stolen grain
🇺🇦summons the 🇹🇷ambassador, saying "We regret the 🇷🇺 ship Zhibek Zholy, loaded with stolen Ukrainian grain, left the port of Karasu, despite evidence of the criminal case being presented to 🇹🇷"
Now #Sloviansk is under attack from MLRSs.
Lesnoy and Slavkurort districts both hit reportedly and there are injured according to Mayor Vadim Lyakh said.
Awful pictures coming in now after the aircraft attack on the city in #Donetsk. Form the look of this it does seem there has been at least one fatality.
I'm not saying #Russia is desperately short of reserves, but credible reports they are now
1) releasing prisoners to serve with the Wagner private military company 2) offering free education for errr... "volunteers" in Donetsk 3) Forcing locals in newly occupied areas to sign up
#Putin today said that #Russia “has not yet started anything in earnest in Ukraine.”
“We do not refuse peace negotiations, but those who refuse should know that further along the more difficult it will be to negotiate. They want to defeat us on the battlefield - let them try.”
It's now known one person died and two others were injured in #Adviivka.
Earlier I showed a photo of a large building completely ablaze after being hit by some sort of munition.
This evening a first dispute between #Ukraine and one of its closest allies, #Canada.
This Ukrainian newsdesk reports Ottawa intends, to approve a request from Germany for an exception to the sanctions, to supply turbines for the Nord Stream gas pipeline
Among data published regularly by #Kyiv is children affected by #PutinsWar.
The number of kids known to have been killed or injured by Russia will reach 1,000 within a week, while many more deaths remain hidden in occupied cities like #Mairupol'
British journalist @joannalillis was detained while reporting on the protests in #Uzbekistan. She was also ordered to delete videos with witnesses, but police later apologised, let her go and returned her phone #Karakalpakstan#Nukus
@joannalillis 1/
Here's a long thread trying to determine whether the red on the streets of #Nukus in #Karakalpakstan was blood, or dye sprayed by water cannons.
In short they make no real conclusion, it may have been red dye.
I counter with it may have been blood.
@joannalillis 2/
I'm not saying Brecht is wrong and there's some great analysis. But I find it strange there is not one single photo or frame of video which shows any vehicle spraying red dye during the violence in #Karakalpakstan
Two more points: 1) There's an injured person on the ground -
However, #Ukraine's Defence staff says they beat off a Russian offensive yesterday.
"the enemy shelled civilian infrastructure in #Siversk + #Hryhorivka. (we) inflicted significant losses on the enemy during his attempted offensive. The occupiers left." facebook.com/GeneralStaff.ua
1/ Another small thread on #Uzbekistan, which has disappeared from headlines around the world as quickly as it briefly appeared.
It would seem the Government's tactics are working in stifling opposition and the truth from getting out of #Karakalpakstan.
2/
You will remember dozens reported dead when a peaceful protest in #Nukus, the capital of autonomous #Karakalpakstan was violently broken up by #Uzbekistan riot police. They claim people rioted, 15 was the official death toll but most opposition activists claim much higher
3/
There's scepticism about a swift U-turn from #Uzbekistan's authoritarian President, scrapping plans to take away #Karakalpakstan's autonomy & hopes to become independent.
Internet access was cut; some new videos are just emerging. This from Saturday shows peaceful protesters
Tuesday's thread on #Russia's war of choice starts here.
It's Day 132 of the illegal conflict.
A late start to the thread today, primarily because it's been one of the quietest days so far since the bombs started falling
Read on for all the news of #Ukraine's fight for survival
1/ I've spent the last 30 minutes going through replies, DMs and questions etc. The most common comment is along the lines of "Is the game up for #Ukraine?"
Certainly things are not going well for Ukraine right now for reasons I'll come to shortly
The main thing to remember is:
2/ Any sort of "peace deal" even a ceasefire, plays right into the Kremlin's hands.
Following the 2014 invasion, the #Minsk accords were foisted on #Ukraine by two western partners🇫🇷+🇩🇪. #Russia refused to allow 🇬🇧+🇺🇸 to the table.
