So we bid farewell to 2022
A year etched into the history books as the start of #Russia's illegal war in #Ukraine.
This is my daily thread number 311. Updating the news concerning the war in real time 24/7 each day.
Please share, spread the word and support!
I want to say thank you to everyone who's supported me in 2022, whether it's with words of encouragement, tip-offs, donations to my fundraiser or buying me a coffee.
I have tried to answer all comments and questions (tho some don't show up from time to time) and DMs remain open.
I didn't post much on the thread yesterday evening as it was quiet and remains so for the first 4.5 hours of Saturday in #Ukraine so far.
Here's the link for the start of yesterday's thread. If you missed anything you can scroll though:
There are some reports of explosions in occupied #Torez in #Donetsk region.
Also intermittent artillery in #Kherson region.
By the way today marks 50 days since Kherson was liberated. #Ukraine taking back the only regional capital and major city lost during the war.
Editors in #Russia know they must not criticise the Kremlin or its Tsar. But just in case, #Putin's acolytes have published a "manual" telling media what they should say over the New Year holiday and how to summarise 2022.
One policeman was injured when #Russia's rockets slammed in to the building in the town in #Donetsk oblast which was liberated 2 months ago.
A female officer holds a flag rescued from the rubble.
📷Head of Police Ihor Klymenko
Governor of #Chernihiv oblast says an Iskander ballistic missile hit the region in the early hours of today.
Vyacheslav Chaus doesn't give the exact location, saying only "#Russia targeted one of the military towns."
No photos either. #Ukraine claims no-one was injured.
I don't know if this is linked to more military relatives going "missing", increasing body bags or the threat of new mobilisation next week, but during the night someone tried to burn down the Red Square Christmas Tree in #Moscow.
"Dead Moroz"
In #Ukraine someone "hanged" the 'Russian' Father Christmas and the snow fairy.
When religion was banned by the USSR, they had to invent new figures to replace St.Nicholas/Santa Claus.
For that reason New Year also became the main holiday and time for presents.
#Russia says it has killed a Ukrainian intelligence agent in #Lysychansk.
They claim he was planning an attack on the local council building on the day the illegal "new constitution" was set to be enacted. It's also alleged he killed two people.
We all need some good news at this time of a tough year... and I can oblige!
The price of gas continues to fall @ICE_Markets shows the current trading price is now at its lowest since 21 February, before the war began.
This should feed through to bills in a couple of months🤞
More missiles from #Russia are currently heading towards #Ukraine and likely the capital #Kyiv.
Russian bombers took to the air an hour ago.
Explosion reported in #Kramatorsk. This may be shelling and not a cruise missile. Awaiting confirmation.
Leaders in #Kyiv say four rockets are entering their air space.
This is reported to be from the launch site over the Caspian Sea.
UPD:
Klychko adds:
"Explosions also took place in Pechersk district and Holosiivsk district. There is destruction. Rescuers and medics are on their way"
Early reports from #Kyiv - one person has died, others injured.
A reminder 10 explosions were heard, many of those missiles being taken out by air defence, but 3 missiles or debris have hit residential areas of #Ukraine's capital.
The Japanese journalist injured in the bombing in #Kyiv has been named as Wataru Sekita. He works for @asahi and was staying in the hotel destroyed by #Russia today.
Some Russian "war bloggers" say the hotel is a NATO base - a journalist wouldn't be allowed in the same hotel.
Mayor @Vitaliy_Klychko says the number injured has climbed to 20, fourteen of whom are hospitalised. The other six were treated by medics at the scene.
It's also known a school in Perchersk and 2 more, plus a kindergarten, in Solom'yans'kyi area were damaged.
#Putin's New Year's speech to the nation was delivered "in front of brave soldiers of the special military operation"
Except it wasn't. Bunker Boy is so paranoid he only trusts known actors wherever he goes.
When you're celebrating New Year, remember that in #Russia they will be exchanging presents this evening.
In #Ukraine kids are in hospital because of "gifts" from the Kremlin.
Each missile launched today costs $10m
A sick waste from a criminal state.
"31 December. No matter how much #Russia wants it, it is now not New Year's Eve, it's now the day of the missile attack.
The terrorist state won't be forgiven. And those who give orders for such strikes, and those who carry them out, won't get a pardon."
Two youngsters were seriously wounded on New Year's Eve in #Kherson region.
The 13 year old and 12 year old girl were hit by multiple pieces of shrapnel when a Russian shell exploded near them in the village of #Naddniprianske.
Not only 140 prisoners of war released today from #Russia's jails, but also a captured dog!
Adik belonged to one of #Ukraine's Defenders of #Azovstal and was snatched. But now he's also liberated. No more wuff-justice for Adik! (sorry, couldn't resist!)
An anti war protest on New Year's Night in the very centre of #Moscow. Someone from the "Russian Volunteer Corps" has defaced part of the infamous "Z, V, O" installation, with red paint to signify #Russia's bloody war.
There may be rockets as well as drones hitting #Kyiv now.
The Regional council states it was debris from a rocket which caused damage in the city, while Russian war bloggers are gloating about more Iskanders being sent for New Year.
Some disorder and arrests in #Moscow during the New Year Celebrations.
I've not found any evidence of the rumours of explosions. If you know different, send me a DM.
In occupied #Donetsk region, the illegal legislation says 15 people have been injured in the bombing of #Makiivka. It's a distinct town but in reality merges with Donetsk into one conurbation.
Thanks for joining me for another daily thread with all the important news surrounding the nations and Putin's illegal conflict.
Monday starts with many Ukrainians still under air raid warnings, but Russia looks to be hit too...
A flurry of activity towards the end of yesterday's thread as #Russia once again sent waves of drones into #Ukraine, again mainly heading for the capital.
Catch up on the whole day's events here by clicking and scrolling though:
The current threat seems to be dissipating. In some regions the all clear has been sounded, but not yet in #Kyiv. But the capital's air defence has shot down 10 attack drones so far tonight.
Different year, same story as #Russia's terrorism continued right through the new year, but lucky for you my daily threads continue to document the terror and war crimes.
It's already been a terrible start to the day
So much happened in the last hour of 2022 as attacks intensify over #Kyiv. Earlier there was another massive missile attack.
If you missed anything, check out yesterday's thread right here:
The air raid still active right now is due to a couple of suspected kamikaze drones in #Kyiv oblast.
The Head of the region Oleksiy Kuleba says air defence is working, but one UAV is still thought to be active as they followed the river Dnipro towards the capital.
This looks like a photo from another world.
It's #Opytne, a small village on the southern outskirts of #Bakhmut.
There's still little change on the frontline here, though #Russia may be making ground in #Soledar after repeated attacks with #Wagner convicts.
There has still been the regular shelling during the night in #Ukraine
Two villages near #Zaporizhzhia were hit by #Russia's artillery. Also struck of course was #Nikopol, which I don't always mention in these threads but continues to be targeted daily.
It's Wednesday 28 December. Day 308 of the war since #Russia invaded #Ukraine.
The (relative) calm continues in much of the country, but on the frontline it remains fierce.
All the news, updated live, in one thread, right here. Spread the word!
So no major missile attacks in #Ukraine, nor loss of life in minor incidents again, but as I type there are air raid warnings across the country, so never any complacency,
If you need to catch up on yesterday's news, here's the usual link:
It's still loud, cold, muddy and extremely tough on the front lines. Many eyes have been watching the situation in #Luhansk oblast, where #Ukraine made some marginal gains towards #Kreminna.
However, the British Intelligence report says #Russia has brought in significant back up
In complete contrast to yesterday there is very little news to report.
This in itself has to be good news with not a single report of missiles or shelling so far and it's almost 6am in #Ukraine.
The de-Nazification/russification of #Ukraine continues.
In liberated #Izium 19 streets have changed names to shed Russian links. The town in #Kharkiv now honours Steve Jobs and Golda Meir instead. Meir, the 4th Prime Minister of Israel was born in #Kyiv.
