I know it's frustrating but honestly not sure "the older generation" exists, that there is any framework for an artistic career in Brunei :(
In the sense that a lot of this "older generation" are individuals doing what they can to push their own artwork or support others
(Individuals or small business entities) But not necessarily have the power of a larger body that can really do more for the art industry
...Yet.
I sometimes second-guess myself when I write about these things. Like, what do I know. So if you're not interested, bah ok tu.
Here be a little compilation of thoughts about Brunei's art industry.
Young gen vs. old gen of creatives
Art is meant to rock the boat. How do different generations approach it?
Professional skills needed as a creative, esp if you are freelancing
Stories of freelancing as a writer. Ppl don't understand monetary value of writing services
Other industries looking to the art industry for marketing
purposes
My two cents: Be aware that this may be a trend. Trends tend to follow what is safe. Trends fade.
On "support": supporting local essence vs. supporting local people
More on "support" - don't work in a bubble
Extra two cents: Could there be an association of art graduates? Support each others' professional as well as technical development.
Even more 2 cents: Please. Critique. Each other's art. And the industry. Yes, share good work by others. But it's critique that improves it.
More cents: Old gen/young gen is a good point of where differences exist, but don't let that divide you.
If you're young gen, look at what older gen managed to achieve. Also look at what they struggled with & could not solve.
And they should do the same with you. Appreciate each others' struggles and achievements. Even better, work together.
Has anyone else said anything interesting or thought-provoking about Brunei's art industry? Would love to read

MCYS Minister's response on pg 23-25. Next morning's session, he added on more points. More or less covered in the accompanying BB articles.
Creating inclusive communities for artists regardless of background
On artists supporting lesser known artists
On NOT growing the industry through monopoly
