So Tasha Cobbs featured Nicki Minaj on a 'gospel' track. These are my bible-informed thoughts. Please don't miss the point.
Thread.
I decided to wait a bit before doing this so that the noise and debate would have died down. This is not an attack, but biblical assessment.
The popular statement of Christians on this matter is that these collaborations are okay as long as more people hear the gospel.
I have heard this I'M GETTING READY song and to be honest, it's not really gospel if we're being biblically strict in assessment.
It's more motivational than gospel and the contents of the song can be found anywhere apart from the bible.
The song is talking basically about more money, success and all that. Nothing wrong with the song though, it's nice and good.
A GOSPEL SONG: has lyrics built around the revelation of the finished work of JESUS for all who believe, saving them instantly.
Also, it should describe the new realities of being born again and having the Holy Spirit living in us, witnessing our adoption.
A gospel artist: a Christian first of all, who uses music to preach the gospel of JESUS CHRIST as found in the bible.
Music therefore becomes more than just a career, more of a ministry built on the word of God and it carries a lot of influence.
Tasha Cobbs is a well known gospel artiste. Nicki Minaj is not known as a Christian or a representer of Jesus in any way or form.
As a matter of fact,Nicki Minaj is known for her music which is full of profanity and immorality, the very things we are to live above.
Is Nicki Minaj a christian? I don't know. But for a popular person, doesn't that tell a lot? I should know already shouldn't I?
When you encounter Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit, it's not something that people need to wonder about. It is clear to all!
You use all your platforms to tell the world, leaving no one in doubt so that when you preach you can say "old things are passed away"
If after the collaboration with Tasha, Nicki started doing gospel after, that would be amazing. Another soul for Jesus!
But that's not the case. So what exactky was the motive behind the collaboration? Nicki's verse was void of gospel content and power.
Yes she said God parted the sea. The canaanites testified of what God did in Egypt also. The knew and feared God, but weren't believers.
Nicki didn't mention Jesus as Lord, she didn't say she has the Holy Spirit in her. So where's the gospel??? Please let's not be deceived.
Some people are already saying Don't judge and that's people's go to to silence criticism. Y'all haven't read scripture to be honest.
John 7:24 says to judge not just by outward things but by a true standard which is the word and Jesus said "we know them by their fruits"
Hypocritical and self righteous judging is wrong, but discerning is highly encouraged, compulsory even, so that we don't enter into error.
We should bring these secular artistes into the church so that they hear the word. We should hang out with them in neutral places and share.
Share the word with them so that they can be saved. Expose them to the true and saving word of God and watch them grow in it.
After they've been saved with proofs, make music with them...now they have the same revelation as you. Now you are co-labourers in Christ.
Tasha says God told her to do it. Well, if anyone says 'God says', we must crosscheck with the bible before accepting it as God's word.
It's called spiritual maturity and discernment. Without it, there'd be error and disunity in the faith. Let's be woke in truth people.
2 Timothy 2:14-22 talks about approved workmanship in Christ. We don't do as we like, but as God has said we should.
We should hold one another accountable so that if I'm slipping up, you can caution me in love and help me up and I do same for you.
That's the body of Christ as is seen in the New Testament.
May we grow in grace and truth always IJN.

Stay blessed. ✌🏽
