/ From 2000 to 2002, I traveled across India studying toymakers who made and sold their wares on the streets. #Entrepreneurship of the poor
/ How these men and women used their creative impulse to survive grinding poverty made me feel great respect for the #UnorganisedSector.
/ I found among toymakers and street vendors the best qualities of what is expected from citizens - live & let live, truly #SecularSharing
/ The great numbers of our urban poor, using their ingenuity to earn a daily wage, seemed to me a vital part of the #IndianEconomy.
/ What distresses me the most about the #BJP & PM Modi's economic vision is that he seems to consider all such poor citizens expendable.
/ This govt. has shown nothing but contempt 4 the qualities that make India resilient - the ingenuity, jugaad, & hard work of ordinary ppl.
/ What is the point of slogans like #MakeInIndia, when you are making it v hard 4 the humblest to survive and make anything in India?
/ Stripping the poor of access 2 services through the draconian #AadhaarFail, & refusing 2 recognize their economic contribution = #BJPgovt
/ If u hv ever bought food, balloons, toys or flowers from a street vendor, ask urself what's happening to them since 2014. I rest my case.
