"Where is the money in cleaning up our local lake?" — @dthorson

This has stuck in my head for a fortnight. I think it is the simplest starting point for comprehending the potential of blockchain technology.
The quote hinges on the word "money".

Money does not incentivise clean lakes.
At least not without considerable, spirited leadership to sell and push that change.

And that is a bug.

"F*** you, pay me" does not make lakes clean.
That we need clean lakes does not need explaining.
If blockchains allow humans to circumvent all of the interpersonal expense of obtaining trust, and can do so at scale, then all trust assurance "middlemen" services become redundant.
The day I don't have to deal with a bank, telco & energy company through the tragedy of customer service will be a grand day.

(These companies have zero incentive to create a better experience. They are "too big to care". Read @gerrymcgovern 's newsletter to learn more.)
I think blockchain tech ultimately allows individuals to decide to a greater extent what they value, and create incentives within the group to build that value.

Sure, it's not that simple and it's not going to be utopia.

(Point out where I'm wrong here please)
I don't know much about Blockchain, yet. Haven't got any cryptocurrencies myself, yet. But I like this idea very much.
Incentives matter. Expectations matter.

Got kids? I learned quickly how to incentivise them. I also learned how to set expectations.
Rearing children has helped me run my own business too!

If you can manage client and audience expectations as well as providing incentives, you'll do well.
Blockchains "remix incentives in creative ways" — @dthorson

What a line, eh?
