I would like to briefly discuss the group of accounts that have invaded resistance twitter dubbed “resist bots.” Over 700 have been identified by twitter users and we hope twitter will soon shut them down, but of course more will appear, so here’s how to spot them. THREAD 
It is very important NOT to shut down or block REAL resistance voices... so... how we know they are malicious bots? (BTW these are NOT your old school empty profile bots)
Here is one of them, it looks legit, pictures, bio, followers, & it seems to be writing it’s own quote tweet (which real bots usually don’t do… as a bot is a program so often just retweets stuff) but look at the account like hers that I’m recommended to follow…

What these bots doing? well to guess we have to look at their history. This account started off with a tweet of another older bot from Oct then spent about two weeks retweeting big name resistance accounts. Honestly, at this point few could have guessed this was a bot.
This time period was programmed to to look authentic and to grow followers and it finished up retweeting smaller resistance accounts and an FBR party...then it moved to phase two.
Russian bots have very few purposes… they intend to misinform, create divisions, and suppress voting they don't want. This bot network seems to have one goal – to drive traffic to their own special “news” sites that may both be giving bad info and also unsafe to interact with.
So the bot begins by building trust and ultimately starts pushing shady news while hiding within resistors' timelines and looking like a trustworthy quote tweet on an interesting topic.

These bots may eventually get shut down, but more will come in their place and little by little they are learning what works and what doesn’t so be careful about clicking on news (or any links) with addresses you have never heard of. Find out more about the news source first.
