Short Thread on Sensible Gun Ownership

1) Americans have a constitutional right to own property & not have it taken without compensation (Read the 5th Amend). But there are laws & requirements for purchases, contracts, & usage.

Let's look at automobiles . . .
2) To purchase & use a vehicle for transportation, as its intended, you are required to:

Register it
License it
Be of a certain age
Pass a written test
Demonstrate proficiency
Become a licensed user
Follow applicable laws
Insure others against misuse

And . . .
3) If you violate these laws, the use of the vehicle can be restricted and in certain cases the vehicle can be confiscated.

Everyone, incuding gun owners & @NRA member in America today, that drive on America's street, must adhere to these laws or face the prescribed penalties.
4) This isn't done to restrict the rights to own property. Nor is it a secret Gov scheme to confiscate all vehicles.

It is designed to limit ownership & usage by those deemed irresponsible, reckless, & to restrict/reduce unlawful usage.

It's done for safety & the greater good.
5) Most cars are legal to own & operate. But, there are those of certain types, designs, power, construction, etc., that are not 'street legal.'

Sometimes special licenses are required, or 'where' they can be used is restricted.

These restrictions are purchase considerations.
6) Why shouldn't we expect the same level of safety & concern for the 'greater good' when it comes to gun ownership?

The 2nd Amend is no more powerful or applicable than the 5th Amend, yet no one is suggesting laws governing vehicles is a threat to property ownership!
7) We have a right to life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness. Another person's right to own a gun doesn't supersede those rights!

Law Makers - Apply similar, logical, common sense laws to gun ownership. It's time! Enough have died, suffered, & mourned!
8) But wait, you say. Using vehicles as an example for gun control is a terrible idea, thousands die each year on our roadways.

Well, consider this:
• Millions more own/drive cars
• The nature of the process (speed, shared roadways, & constant proximity) increases the risks.
9) If you don't think the laws governing the ownership & usage of automobiles saves lives, consider what our roadways would be like without them.

The only certain way to insure more will succumb to gun violence unnecessarily is to listen to the @NRA & do nothing.

Unacceptable!
10) Vote against any politician that accepts NRA donations & direct your purchase dollars away from those companies & organizations that support those who support gun violence.
