A thread on when taking a break from Twitter no longer means taking a break from Jew baiting.

I took a break from Twitter. Not very long ago. A couple of weeks is all. I intended it to last much longer. After this, it will.

My break was because I needed to protect myself from the indifference, the abuse, the hostility, the Jew baiting.

And mainly because I no longer believe that there’s a point to my delusional battle to save the Jews via the medium of words on social media & blogs.We lost. Again

Because the last 3 years (yes, it really is coming up to 3 years) have demonstrated very effectively that of all those folk I once believed were the decent ones – well, most of them actually aren’t.

So – anyway, so much for my slow wittedness.

“Take a Twitter break” I said. I did. “That’ll be better” I said. I am, of course a fool.

This morning I was walking my (non-Jewish) dog with my (Jewish) wife. In our local park we walked past a Lab party-canvassing stall. They asked if we would support them.

I foolishly said “well, no.”

Asked why, I mentioned the pro-Russia, extremist leadership and the undemocratic politics & the aggression towards women. I tagged on to the end something about antisemitism.

The middle aged middle class woman looked at me like I was from Mars, and the twenty-something middle class lad didn’t blink at the bits about Russia etc but simply said “I don’t agree with the antisemitism”.

10% of my brain thought “hey, an ally!”
The rest went rigid.

“Can you explain what you mean by that” I asked.

“It’s not antisemitism: it’s antizionism” he said.

And something in me finally broke.

I’ve debated with “antizionist” obsessives on the street, at demos, on TV and of course had a barrage of it here.

But on this first day of Spring-like weather, with my wife and my dog in my local park I lost it.

I ‘m so stupid that I actually thought withdrawing from Twitter might mean I could withdraw from the abuse, the indiffernence, from the Jew baiting.

But there I was on my Saturday morning in the park – being baited. By Labour. And I very nearly completely snapped.

I turned into a raging, half coherent ball of hurt. I yelled. I cursed. I hated.

I’m not proud of my behaviour. But equally I will not go quietly. But it seems I have to go.

Others can maintain an amazing calm and forensic distance from the bile directed at them. I simply can’t anymore. It’s broken that part of me – for good I think.

So not only do I have to withdraw from Twitter – it seems I have to withdraw from any interaction with “politics”, even in my local area on a weekend unless I am able to re-grow the ability to be baited by the virtuous middle class racists of the Labour Party and yet not break.

“You Jews want to participate in democratic politics? Well, you better get used to the way we do things round here now or ship out”

In the new reality of these new rules for Jews, some of us just aren’t up to it anymore.
I’m out.

Well, a late addition to the thread.
Having cracked on Saturday and decided that i have to withdraw as Jews are no longer welcome in the democratic spaces of our society it seems the Board & JLC have cracked too.
So I'll be there this evening.
