Thread on @PeoplesMomentum and antisemitism:

This week Momentum released a video on antisemitism that featured a young Jewish woman who made a number of very problematic comments.
Good analyses have been provided by @daverich1 @DavidHirsh @mishtal and @israel_advocacy
The video represents just another example of the way that the Left highlights and celebrates Jewish voices who represent only a very small minority of British Jews and yet pillories, abuses and condemns those Jewish voices that speak for the vast majority

The mainstreaming and empowering of the fringe, crank and wholly unrepresentative voice of those behind Jewish Voice for Labour and Free Speech on Israel is the most obvious and dangerous element of this current phenomena.

And we can see something very similar in another context
The history of black and other ethnic minorities is of course also populated by figures who have chosen to stand apart from their ethnic/cultural grouping and instead to side with those who attack them.

The closest current example may be on the far right in America right now.
I missed it at the time but in April @arunindy published a fascinating piece in @thedailybeast
thedailybeast.com/why-young-men-…
This piece on the black, Latino and Asian men who have joined and stand with the far right activists in the US is striking in that the language used by them is an exact analogue of the language used by the few Jewish voices who side with the antisemitic Left.
These black, Latino and Asian voices blame their own for any inequality. They deny institutional racism exists or (in their convoluted and contradictory logic) state that any racism is caused by the behaviour of the minority groups.
They talk about "black privilege"
Well educated, liberal, Leftist people who read this article will shake their heads in sadness and confusion, wondering what could drive these young men to side with the ideology that hurts their family. Why would they choose to use the very language that oppresses them?
And yet some of those very same people will watch the Momentum video and applaud this brave young Jewish woman who stands up for the oppressed Palestinians by giving them the absolute right to spread anti-Jewish hate. They'll echo the JVL/FSOI line that this is all a Tory plot
And they will see no contradiction in their 2 very different reaction to 2 very similar circumstances.
Why could this be? Why celebrate the fringe Jewish voices yet be appalled by the fringe black, Latino or Asian voices?
The inconsistency reveals - i believe - something very fundamental and very dangerous about how Jews have been set apart from the norms and values of contemporary "progressive" thought.

Ends.
