The United States rode a wave of supremacy gifted it by dint of being the only industrial power not bombed to shit in WWII, made the mistake of believing that supremacy reflected a ‘natural’ world order, and has basically been engaged in self-harm for sport since the late 1970s.
But yeah, Russia are still dicks. Just because we’re feckless and slow doesn’t mean it’s OK to punch us repeatedly in the back of the head.

In seriousness, I think maybe what we should be learning from our EU, Nordic, and Baltic allies is that healthy democracies are less susceptible to interference than sick ones. Estonia + Finland def give good cyber, but there are other lessons there.
Unfortunately the danger of succumbing to paralysis by omphaloskepsis in Qs about ‘why Russia hates us’ instead of confronting our actual problems is v real.
