Books set in Indian States/Translated Fiction from Indian States. Will try and cover all 29 states and 7 UTs. (Thread). These are books that I have loved over the years.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands: Islands in Flux: The Andaman and Nicobar Story by Pankaj Sekhsaria. The environmental and climate changes in these islands and how much of a threat it poses to the beautiful island chain.
Andhra Pradesh: That Man on the Road: Contemporary Telugu Short Fiction: Edited by Ranga Rao. 18 short stories, each so different and each of them can be related to at a universal level - given the range of emotions.
Arunachal Pradesh: The Legends of Pensam by Mamang Dai. Interconnected stories, blending myth and history, Mamang brings to fore the customs, traditions and beliefs of her people.
Assam: His Share of Sky by Rashmi Narzary. The stories of the life of a 10-year-old boy, Barsau, living in a Bodo village are hilarious, poignant and often just make you want to revisit childhood.
Bihar: The Patna Manual of Style: Stories by Siddharth Chowdhury. A fascinating collection of nine interlinked stories.
Bihar: Anything by Ramdhari Singh Dinkar ji really. Dinkar ji ko nahi padha, toh kya padha. But Kurukshetra hamari sabse favourite hain.
Chandigarh: Storm in Chandigarh by Nayantara Sahgal. Personal lives intertwined with political ones. A headrush of a novel!
Chhattisgarh: Because Vinod Kumar Shukla cannot be contained in one book. Read him. Read him now.
While I rack my brains about books set in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, here are some of my favourite books set in Delhi:
