2. This latest transfer is stuck in “Pending”. I called @AskPayPal to ask why. I was told a security algorithm had flagged the transaction and extra processing time would be required. Maybe around “May 9th”.
3. I advised that was unacceptable as I have bills to pay before then. I pointed out that I make this transaction every month and inquired why it was flagged this time. @AskPayPal didn’t know why and said it was an automated program and no department was in charge of it.
4. So I escalated up to a @AskPayPal supervisor who told me that it’s an “A.I.” — as in Artificial Intelligence—and they don’t know what parameters it uses or how to correct or expedite a flagged withdrawal. Surely there’s an engineer who designed this, I asked. I was told no.
5. So I escalated to a @PayPal manager who reiterated it’s an A.I. and that no one in @AskPayPal can access it or give me any information, and that this is happening to “countless” customers, and he’s frustrated that he can’t help. And he apologized profusely.
6. It’s not @AskPayPal’s fault. I’ve worked cust svc call centers and I know how hard that job is. But what kind of hair brained policy are you running @PayPal where no human being can override the A.I.? Have you never watched THE TERMINATOR?
7. So, anyway, I’ll be canceling my @PayPal soon as this is resolved. I suspect other freelancers and self-employed folks dealing with this will as well. If you owe me money, send an old school check. It takes longer, but it stymies our A.I. overlords.
