#PiDay2022

We can measure the Diameter of a circle & the circumference but the transcendental & irrational value of π is infinite.

1/ Happy #PiDay aka Einstein's birthday (see below).

Serendipitously, we watched IQ (1994) last night
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I.Q._(fil…

I have mixed feelings about the film. On one side, I saw it being made as a junior, so that was cool.

2/ OTOH, there were 3 major movie sins:
(1) the writers turned the most famous Jewish refugee from N*zi Germany into an uncle of a blond WASP

(2) IRL, Einstein didn't treat women very well at all, yet the movie makes him a romantic softie.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Ei…
3/ More subtly (3) the writers have Einstein validate the standard American-Hollywood anti-intellectual creed that blue-collar mechanics are 'real' & 'authentic' while intellectuals aren't.

I do accept their depiction of 1950s social science. theonion.com/report-majorit…

#πDAY #PiDay

Ladchumanan Lavan

Image

I’m bad at making ice cream cuz I approach it like cooking (I build flavors then suss things out) when it’s closer to baking (ingredient ratios can be tweaked but only slightly)

anyway, these will be a boozy dupe for grape flinstones push pops with calpico& soju #humblebragdiet

To celebrate #PiDay, my housemate and I created thoroughly scientific ratings of different pie emojis on Emojipedia. 🥧 Here we go:
Apple: This Apple pie had better be an apple pie, and everyone likes apple pie. Seems basic, but a solid foundation. The subtle steam is a nice touch. 8/10. Pie emoji from Apple
Google: Pumpkin is a rather divisive choice, and #PiDay isn't even during pumpkin spice season. The crust looks a little cardboard-y, but the whipped cream looks delicious. 6/10. Pie emoji from Google

Ok! I’ve been asked by @johndavidian to do a #PiDay tweet-storm on Key Lime pie and how it thickens without cooking! Strap in, #FoodSci ahead! Heads up, I'm about to disagree with Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_lime_… 1/29
Here’s a recipe. Something fun about key lime pie is that it’s kinda new, as the history of pie goes - it’s missing from my collection of midcentury cookbooks (this is Doubleday) 2/29 Image
The interesting thing about the recipe is that we are not using heat to set the filling. This is no-cook. YET we add 3 liquids together to make the filling (four if you count the food coloring). What? 3/29

#PiDay is celebrated on March 14th since it resembles 3.14. Pi (𝛑) is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. It also happens to be Albert Einstein’s birthday. Fun facts #thread about #pi (1/ 5) Image
Last year, Emma Haruka from @Google calculated 31,415,926,535,897 digits (most calculated so far) of Pi using program called y-cruncher using 25 Google Cloud virtual machines over four-months bit.ly/3cWKDTG (2/ 5)
Pi Day was first celebrated by physicist Larry Shaw at San Francisco's Exploratorium, where he is known as the "Prince of Pi”(3/ 5) Image
