A pathetic letter from @nikkihaley responding to UN @Alston_UNSR report on poverty in the United States. Calls it "misleading and politically motivated." sanders.senate.gov/download/haley…
@nikkihaley @Alston_UNSR Haley blasts the UN for choosing to investigate poverty in the US. The UN visit was at the *invitation* of the US, and the Trump Administration *facilitated* the visit.
Haley says the UN should have investigated poverty in other countries. The UN also does! Recently: Ghana, Saudi Arabia, China, Mauritania, Romania + more.
Haley says it is “patently ridiculous” for the UN to examine poverty in the US. Perhaps some of the 40 million people living in poverty in the US disagree?
Haley says these are “domestic policy issues.” The US signed the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, and other treaties which protect rights related to poverty: ohchr.org/EN/Issues/Pove…
The UN @Alston_UNSR report notes that "in the OECD the US ranks 35th out of 37 in terms of poverty and inequality."
The UN report also notes that "The youth poverty rate in the United States is the highest across the OECD with one quarter of youth living in poverty."
Read this for facts about poverty in the US: ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/…
Here's @Alston_UNSR response to @NikkyHaley - begins "Speaking of cesspools.." ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/…
