Social Media Pro-Tip: Trolls come in many forms and it's important to recognize them and block their future access to you. Especially aggressive trolls should be publicly identified to your followers so that they are able to block then too.

Why is that important?

1/
Informing others and allowing them to pre-block limits the scope and reach of that troll's future endeavors.

Troll type #1: The angry troll. This troll is mad at you, mad at what you believe, and you are wrong because simply because he is mad damn you!

2/
Troll type #2: The smarty pants troll. This one uses big words & lots of data/ "facts" to tell you why you are wrong & stupid. This troll might make you begin to doubt yourself (a form of gaslighting), but when you check his "facts" they are almost always wrong.

3/
Troll type #3: The meme troll. They are everywhere. They fill your comment threads with nonsense memes, they answer questions with memes, they just love memes.

I created a meme for this kind of troll, please feel free to utilize it at your discretion.

4/
Troll type #4: The snark troll.
This troll is often the most frustrating due to their quick wit and ability to answer everything with an even wittier comment than their last. The smarty pants snark troll is a vicious hybrid and is best avoided at all costs.

5/
Troll type #5: The opposite day troll. This troll, another gaslighter, will accuse you being all of the things they really are: racist, homophone, misogynist.

6/
Troll type #6: The proud racist (sexist, homophone). These guys are easy to identify. Their handles and profile pics often give them away. Think green Pepe frogs and the like. Report all of these to Twitter immediately.

7/
Troll type #7: The eternal circle troll. He will make a claim which you prove wrong, but he never acknowledges the fact that you've proven him wrong. He then either expands the parameters of the first claim or changes topics. Rinse and repeat. He is particularly annoying.

8/
Troll type #8: The concern troll.
This is perhaps the most insidious form and can often be the hardest to identify. This troll seems like your friend and agree with everything you are saying but...if you read closely you see their concern is fake and actually a critique.

9/
Troll type #9: The bot. Whether computer algorithm or person, this troll travels by keyword & hashtag. They often have screennames like Jake914672, less than 100 followers, & their TL will be single topic tirades such as "Lock her up!."

10/
There are many other variants, including a wide array of hybrids, but it's important to know one when you see one and to act as quickly as possible.

Think of trolls like a flame, if you deprive a flame of oxygen it dies. Deprive a troll of attention and it will too.
