US ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim is back in Panmunjom to confer with NK diplomat Choe Son-hui. Per JA, the two met for an hour on July 1 to discuss Pompeo's expected trip to Pyongyang on July 6 and issues related to transferring MIA-POW remains

Sung Kim and his team arrived in Seoul last week. JoongAng reporting that Kim asked Choe for a preliminary accounting of nuclear programs. JA thinks Sung Kim's return from the Philippines suggests he may soon be formally tapped for a post responsible for negotiating with NK
Chosun reports Sung Kim was accompanied by Andrew Kim of CIA's Korea Mission Center and, from the NK side, KJU's key aide Kim Yong-chol accompanied Cho Son-hui: this is per "diplomatic sources." The US side is reportedly asking for concrete steps from NK news.chosun.com/site/data/html…
Well, concrete steps are needed not only with regard to denuclearization but the transfer of US remains. Those 100 caskets have not been transferred to the NK side. In fact, 100 more were sent. So 200 caskets in all are currently sitting in Panmunjom

CNN confirms that Sung Kim and his team met with Cho Son-hui. Kim Yong-chol's name however isn't mentioned. Chosun was the only SK source that claimed KJU's right hand-man also showed. Sung Kim and Team USA members are staying at Four Seasons in Jongno

Another departure to Panmunjom for Sung Kim and US negotiators this morning (July 2). SK media report, he got out of Four Seasons in Gwanghwamun at 7:45am. However SK reporters do now know where in Panmunjom the venue will be or where it was yesterday

Chosun was right and in fact had a scoop: Yonhap reports Kim Yong-chol came to Panmunjom yesterday and was handed a letter from Pompeo. Andrew Kim of CIA's Korea Mission Center handed him the letter. KYC went back to Pyongyang as soon as he got the letter

So what will Pompeo do in NK, assuming he'll be let in?

1: Bring remains of US POW-MIAs (this was a low-hanging fruit; not sure if it still is)
2: Get NK to destroy Tongchang-ri missile engine test site
3: Get NK to agree to a denuclearization timetable

@potus badly mishandled DPRK policy. USA weaker as result. 3 changes made summit possible:
1) President Moon elected President ROK, reaching out to DPRK;
2) KJU consolidated political and military power;
3) Max pressure by UN/Trump
Handed a chance to put US-DPRK relations on a better trajectory -- headed in direction of peace and denuclearization -- Trump misinterpreted how we got here. He attributed DPRK willingness to talk to his Max Pressure campaign alone -- ignoring the two more important factors.
Not understanding WHY diplomacy was an option, no surprise Trump badly mishandled opportunity he was gifted. He continued to threaten the DPRK -- Libya Model references -- even during immediate run-up to the summit.
Bolton knew (even if Trump did not) what that meant.
