3/ Rich landowners with a vested interest in slavery buying printing presses and saying anything they’d want to slime the other side.
This culminated with the Southern Fire eaters, who were pro-slavery and urged succession in their alternate press.

4/ By Abraham Lincoln, the problem had been put off so long that the Civil War was inevitable.
Fast forward to today and Trump.
Trump is the result of 20-years of a right-wing alternative media system that specializes in fostering resentment, just like the Fire Eaters.

5/ But here’s what gives me hope.
We’re not putting this off. We’re not kicking the can down the road. We’re addressing our problems, head on as a nation.
We’re seeing a fundamental rebuilding of the Democratic party- something that had to happen.

6/ The right-wing itself has painted itself into a corner. Because the resentment they foster is sabotaging the free-trade, pro-corporatist billionaires that actually run the party.
We have a lot of work to do. We have hard battles to be fought. But we can win this, peacefully.

7/ I am immensely hopeful for America’s future. The thousands of new canidates give me hope. The engaged voters give me hope.
