No. Just. No. Stop lying to yourselves. The U.S. was literally one of the last countries in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery. Denmark 1803. Haiti, the only country in history where slaves overthrew their masters, 1804. Greece 1822. Mexico 1829. Bolivia 1831. UK 1834.
Serbia 1835. Paraguay 1842. France 1848. New Grenada 1851. Ecuador. Peru. Venezuela. Moldavia. All before U.S. We don't come until 1865. We did not destroy this institution. It took the deadliest war in our history to end an institution tht hd already been ended across the globe.
Again, this speaks to the complete and utter failure of the world and American history that is taught in our schools.
While other nations were ending slavery, we were moving to expand it. Florida becomes a territory of Spain's refusal to help return runaways. We consider annexing Cuba in order to expand American slavery there. The truth is ugly, and we cannot hide from it.
