Same day Trump asked the Russians to get Hillary's "missing emails," they tried.
Worth noticing the language the Special Counsel used concerning the July 27 events: “after hours” and “for the first time” are both unnecessary to the charges and—it’s reasonable to conclude—intended to connect the efforts with Trump’s public comments that day. 
Also raises a question: Did the Clinton campaign detect these spearphishing efforts directed at the clintonemail domain so shortly after Trump’s invitation to the Russians? If so, did they consider telling the public and decide not to?
One more thing: the US counterintelligence capabilities on display in the indictment lend some weight to the argument that foreign intelligence didn’t breach Clinton’s server. It’s not possible to rule it out, but apparently we’re pretty good at detecting it and didn’t see it.
