Before we close the books on @mcfaul-gate, thanks to all who spoke up to oppose exposing US diplomats to Russian questioning. Without the widespread expressions of outrage, there's no way the Administration would have walked it back to a non-starter as quickly as it did.
That would have left Putin dangling this absurd proposal, and some of Trump's supporters trying to justify it, for who knows how long. Thanks to your speaking up, that is no longer possible.
Here's the other piece, though: It's obvious by Trump's description of it as Putin's "incredible offer" that he was utterly suckered into thinking the mutual investigations was a good idea. Sure, it wasn't likely to happen. But for several days, Trump thought it should.
