I was raised to respect military heroes and show compassion toward anyone dying from a terminal illness. I was also raised to do the same to women and my elders, but @HillaryClinton never received this consideration.
When I was a kid, if you'd told me that Nancy Reagan would run for political office, I'd assume that there'd be some deference shown to her as a former First Lady who was eligible for social security.
The Republican National Convention regularly featured chants of "Lock Her Up!" directed at an almost 70-yr-old grandmother who was also a former First Lady of the US. (Note that once upon a time, the notion of jailing a former First Lady would be unheard of.)
These were all invented crimes. It was a literal witch hunt. She'd even been cleared of whatever latest BS charges there might've been against her. That still wasn't enough to stop the "Lock Her Up!" chants. There still aren't.
Meghan McCain is losing a parent. I've lost a parent. I can understand how that feels. But, unlike McCain, I possess the empathy to know that Chelsea Clinton might not want to have her senior citizen mother star in a reality TV version of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK.
Kelly Sadler privately making a joke about McCain's failing health is disgusting but let's all realize that Sadler isn't proposing *actually* hastening his death. She's just callously acknowledging that he is not long for this earth.
Chanting "Lock Her Up!" -- which occurs even now, with a giggling attorney general joining in -- is actively proposing putting an old woman in jail. I don't mean to be ageist but again, I was raised to find that tacky.
