It's possible The @Independent just slightly tipped its hand at the outset in what it thinks about Seymour Hersh.

More carefully written than usual but also still somewhat misleading: in both My Lai and Abu Ghraib, Hersh wrote of atrocities that the US military was already in the process of punishing. He just added sensationalism and used the events for political warfare to assist the enemy.
The @Independent chose to pressure Seymour Hersh in a manner last seen with the NKVD ...
Hersh lets us know that the Russians didn't hack the DNC or try to murder the Skripals, Asad is fighting a just war against jihadists [known to everyone else as the Syrian population], and Iran hardly has any influence in Iraq.
Finally, Hersh is a 9/11 denialist of some kind and still insists the killing of Usama bin Ladin was some kind of conspiracy. The interviewer is disappointed Hersh takes a more or less conventional line on the JFK assassination, though.
