Still having a love-hate relationship with the "Retweet with comment" option here on Twitter:

❤ Best way to add a personal take (keeps the context AND is 100% seen by your followers
💔 Doesn't initiate conversations as well as replys, no obvious way to answer
💔 "invisible" for everybody that doesn't follow you. I can't even see if other people retweeted or retweeted with a comment. Why on earth should I want the user bio when I click on the Retweet count?
💔 Visual hierachy is flipped. First the comment, than the piece that is commented on. Imagine a blog where you first see the comments and then the post
💔 Orginal tweet is often truncated, with loss in formatting
💔 Original tweet can be missunderstood as link "card"
This feature is a perfect example showing what Twitter lacks in management skill: Navigating the tight line between incorporating user requests and keeping the Twitter core simple. Retweets are used by the community for more than a decade (!) web.archive.org/web/2010110804…
Why not make Replys public to all followers? (And not only to the subset of people that follow me and the person I replied to.)
- Since Twitter started to show the replied to-tweet in my feed, context is secured.
- Timeline would be more centered around conversations, not individual statements (isn't that what Twitter should be for?)
- Timeline would be more permeable in the amount of people/opinions you get to see
- Eliminates the need for a separate Retweet with comment interaction type & the .@ interaction type (paradox of choice) dummies.com/social-media/t…

Yes, maybe files will be gone (like mainframes are gone) in 10 years (and it will be great!), but in the meantime there's a transition.

And like GUIs had CLIs as a backup, "Pro" tablets should be able to work with files (as a backup).
Don't despair, I think iOS 13 will fix this.

But this notion that files aren't important is ignorant of the last 20 years - even the non-experts grasp the concept and use USB flash drives every day.

Doing spec comparisons was never satisfying for smartphones.

(a) "value-for-money was always better on Android
(b) but that doesn't matter if the XP is still better on iOS (e.g. smooth scrolling)

That said, the value-for-money gap seems to be widening over the last few years.
As if Apple realised for themselves that they aren't here to transform all the peoples lives - just the ones that can afford it.
Otherwise they would offer a "medium-cost" iPhone as well, and not only cater the luxury niche (where margins are high).

Back in 2016 I wrote a piece where I argued Apple needs to (re)gain a simple and straightforward portfolio logic.

That's what I said about naming shemes.
I stand corrected. iPhone 82S sounds way better (and more logical) than iPhone X S MAX.

(I don't even know what the correct camel case is.)
So far, even the die-hard Apple fans have no defense for that naming. It is indeed Android-like.

The truth is, the household fallacy has been weaponised for purely political ends: to prevent progressive spending policy from gaining legitimacy. Its apparently instinctive logic disguises the truth– what is true for an individual household is not true for the government.
By cutting its spending the government also ends up reducing its own income. So unlike a household, government spending and income are not independent of one another - reductions in government spending when economy is under performing leads to higher debt and lower growth.

Here's the best way I've ever heard it explained.

Tolerance is not a moral precept, it is a peace treaty. When peace treaties are broken, no party has an obligation to honor them until peace is restored.
In other words: we don't demand tolerance for tolerance's sake. We demand tolerance to keep the peace in a free and open society.

If tolerance of Idea X does not further that goal, we have no moral obligation to tolerate Idea X being spoken in public.
So for instance, no one is harmed by the idea "blue is the best color." So we have an obligation to tolerate it because kicking people who like the color blue out of restaurants would be a pointless disruption of the peace.

Here's a guaranteed way for #Writing Contest Jurors to ruin an #emergingwriter's day: tweet to your followers (some of whom have to be thinking of entering the contest you're judging) that you're not a fan of certain kinds of stories, so maybe it's best if they "skip this one..."
...bc being an #emergingwriter isn't hard enough. It isn't hard enough that there already is a magical/frustrating subjectiveness and unpredictability to contests, and that entering one is an act of #faith, yet maybe your surprising story will be the one to enchant the jurors...
...nor is it a challenge to come up with the contest fee, which is usually significant, because you think your story's great and might have a shot, even though it's got #scifi or #specfic elements, because you've been inspired in the past by unexpected and genre-bending work...
