Recall, this is happening in context of Belgrade’s surging push to partition Kosovo which I have claimed all along is primarily a bid to legitimize their pretensions on Bosnia. And Dacic, the ex-Milosevic lieutenant, keeps confirming just that. And still radio silence from EU/US.
So, to be blunt: the Vucic govt in Serbia is testing the US & EU resolve for re-drawing borders in the Balkans. They would prefer a grand bargain but are also continually hinting at the possibility of violence. On both counts, they’re feeling emboldened by EU & US silence.
I’m more aware than most that the Balkans are hardly on anyone’s radar. But Vucic & Dodik are doing everything just short of overt violence — clandestine confrontations/posturing now routine — to destabilize region. We’re boiling, just waiting to boil over. Response needed now.
