You know, the thing that really pisses me off about "reducing echo chambers on here" is that I've spent the last 10 years looking for a wide variety of people/viewpoints to follow so I could learn things. I live in LESS of a bubble these days.
"This is my life and these are my dreams/goals and this is what people do that hurts me; this is what I need to feel accepted and respected."
I don't need Twitter to come in here and say, "But we want to show you viewpoints from people that hate you and the people you follow! Gotta Hear Both Sides!™"

Halloween as a holiday, even commercialized, only wants you to be happy. It wants you to express yourself, if you wish, with a doofy costume of literally anything. Doesn’t have to be ~spooky. I wear a pair of $3 bat earrings and Halloween is happy for me.
Yes, Halloween DOES encourage you to spend relatively small amounts of money on grotesque amounts of candy. It does not ask you to cook for umpteen people. It does not ask you to try, and possibly fail, to roast a turkey. It does not ask you to cope with relatives you dread.

For some reason I’ve seen a number of replies lately to people’s “assholes are shitty to me because (my identity/activities/interests) and that sucks,” to the effect of “only YOU can allow other people to make you feel bad. BE STRONG! STOP CARING WHAT THEY SAY!” and: wtf?
“I myself manage not to care what people say! I live my life the way I want to! Conveniently, people are not being shitty to me for the same reason they are to you, and yet I’m running my mouth anyway because I think that helps somehow!”
Or, have you considered: other people could just... not be assholes? Maybe the responsibility should be on them to be civil/empathetic/mind-their-own-businessing and just... not?

Proposition: comics aren't for kids anymore and haven't been for kids in decades.

Evidence: Price and access.
Price: For most of the Golden and Silver and part of the Bronze Age, the price of ten comics was equivalent to about an hour's pay at minimum wage. In the 1960s, I was paid a minimum wage of $1.50 (in NY) and a comic cost about 15 cents. Similar ratios in the 70s and early 80s.
Price: Today, ten comics cost about $40. Show me the state where the minimum wage is $40 an hour and we'll all move there.

No child or teen today can afford the kind of comics Jones I indulged in the '60s by shoveling snow, mowing lawns, and painting houses.

This is the truest thread and it will make so many of you feel better. I’m many books in at this point, and yep, it’s so real. Whee! Keep going, next book, new book, don’t panic, this is a long, long game.
Ps: in addition to that comment about the Long Game - I’ve hit the NYT list three times, never longer than a couple weeks. It doesn’t actually much change your life financially, and it doesn’t have to happen to make you successful. It’s cool, but it’s not The Only Cool Thing.
Like @DelilahSDawson, I’ve also had a couple books that totally DOAed. After years of work. That was a bummer, but it didn’t end my career, and it was just a bummer. (Go buy Queen of Kings! For example! It’s totally good! It was my first novel!)

Too many people have seen & are talking about how bad it is. Not Russian bots. MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.
Dems & DNC Media are about have it graphically proven to them YET AGAIN their narratives do not drive reality.

It'll be released ANYWAY.
All it will take is a single Trump tweet. And he's waiting to let the momentum build.
